If the archives questions whether or not to keep the Coburn prints it would only be in consideration of the legality of ownership. If they were in fact legitimately acquired by Professor Jussim, the archives would be crazy not to keep them, whether they are easily researched or not. Coburn was a very important photographer who was a member of the Photo-Secession group that included Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen. There would be plenty of scholarship on his work and numerous ways to identify and catalog them.
The first step I think, would be to contact the George Eastman House and verify the terms of the acquisition by Prof Jussim and also to determine whether or not she was in a contract with a publisher and if they had any claim on the prints. The accession numbers could be Prof. Jussim's work and may be referenced in the other papers in the collection.
